The Artist’s Garden is Theme for June Show at KIFA

For those of us who felt left behind after the mass exodus to Florida, our thoughts have turned to spring flowers and summer garden plans.  “The Artist’s Garden” is the theme of the June 2011 show at Kent Island Federation of Arts (KIFA) in historic Stevensville, MD.  It will reflect the inspiration the artist derives from the garden.

The show begins June 8 and runs through July 1.  A reception will be held on Thursday, June 9 from 5-7 pm at KIFA, 405 Main Street on Kent Island, which is free and open to the public.

Sally Clark, a well-known Eastern Shore artist and long-time resident of Queen Anne’s County, will be the judge for the Best in Show, Awards of Excellence, as well as Honorable Mention prizes.

The show is non-juried and open to all media, including original paintings, sculpture, photography, fiber art and fine crafts, which reflect the garden theme.  Artists may enter up to three pieces of art, which follow show guidelines.

On the weekend of June 11 and 12, KIFA will hold its “Second Annual Garden Tour” which was a huge success last year.  Tickets are available at KIFA. To complement the tour and the show, KIFA will be presenting its first “Garden Boutique” starting Wednesday June 8 and running through the 12th.  The boutique will offer a diverse selection of garden-related items for sale in the gallery.  Vendor applications are still being accepted.

The KIFA gallery is located in a Victorian house in the historic section of Stevensville at 405 Main Street, Stevensville, MD  21666.  KIFA is a non-profit volunteer organization whose mission is to expand the cultural and artistic climate of Queen Anne’s County.  KIFA encourages participation in the arts by offering monthly gallery exhibits, juried and non-juried competitions, classes and workshops, special events, display of art work in area businesses, cooperation with area schools, the Chamber of Commerce and other organizations.

Pre-registration for the June show is required and entries must be postmarked by May 30, 2011.  For additional information about all three events, please go to www.kifa.us or contact KIFA at 410-643-7424 or email kifa@verizon.net.  For additional information about the June show, contact the show chair, Rebecca Jones at 410-490-2902.
