The Avon Dixon Agency and PURE Insurance Sponsor Matulka Reception

The Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD recently held a reception for its new exhibition, Modernist Inclinations: The Art of Jan Matulka, co-hosted by the exhibition’s sponsors PURE Insurance and The Avon Dixon Agency, a member of Shore Bancshares, Inc. The exhibition, featuring the art of Jan Matulka (1890-1972), will be on display through October 16, 2011.

In the 1920s and 30s, Matulka was a leader in the New York art world, promoting new modes of expression based on his experiences in Paris and across Europe. As an artist and a teacher he investigated and advocated Cubism, Surrealism, Precisionism and related movements. Modernist Inclinations is also underwritten by gifts from Mary Beth Cahill and Steve Champlin and sponsored in part by the Maryland State Arts Council and the Talbot County Arts Council. The Estate of Jan Matulka and the McCormick Gallery, Chicago Illinois provided assistance in organizing this exhibition.
