Back by popular demand, the Madrigal Singers return to Old Wye Church with “A Prelude to Christmas” on Friday, December 11 at 7:00 p.m. This candlelight program is a wonderful introduction to the Christmas season designed to appeal to the whole family.
Directed by Cindy Bauchspies, The Madrigals are a group of seventeen auditioned a cappella singers from the Annapolis Area Christian School. They perform a wide variety of repertoire in venues ranging from European cathedrals, the White House, and the National Gallery to nursing homes and Orioles Baseball Park. Recently, they received the highest score at the Maryland State Choral Festival. In June 2009, the Madrigals made their third appearance at the International Church Music Festival in Rome when the Festival marked its 25th Anniversary. The Madrigals are the only high school choir ever invited to perform at this international festival.
An accomplished choral director and singer/songwriter, Ms. Bauchspies is also the Director of the United States Naval Academy Women’s Glee Club. For the past twenty-three years, Director Bauchspies has been developing choral programs at the Annapolis Area Christian High School, which now boasts four choirs.
Old Wye Church, the setting for this Christmas Season event, is a beautifully restored colonial church dating from 1721. It is known for its fine acoustics. The Church is located at 14114 Old Wye Mills Rd. in Wye Mills.
“A Prelude to Christmas” is the second performance in the Music at Wye 2009-2010 Concert Series. The next concert, February 6, will present New Orleans jazz.
Tickets will be available at the door for $15 for non-season ticket holders. For further information, please call 410.827.8484.
