Brian Truitt, the owner of Patriot Acres Farm Brewery in Sudlersville, spent 10 active years in the Army, which included deployments to Kosovo and Iraq/Kuwait. He spent an additional 10 years with the Maryland Army National Guard achieving a top rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2. Brian recognized that he wanted to do something to help veterans, law enforcement and first respondents when their lives took unexpected turns for the worse, such as health issues. He and several people, including Elaine Harrison, met and discussed the possibilities. The resolution? Start a non-profit through Chesapeake Charities. The goal was to collect $5,000 in order to initiate the non-profit. And thus… The Patriot Emergency Relief Fund was founded and established as part of Chesapeake Charities in 2003/2004.
The Patriot Emergency Relief Fund provides emergency financial relief to veterans, law enforcement and first responders on an as-needed basis. The group offers a range of services to support members of this group in times of need. The financial assistance program provides grants to help cover essential expenses such as rent, utilities, medical bills and day-to-day living needs.
