The Queen Anne’s County Commissioners will be holding three public hearings in June regarding the FY12 county budget and the constant yield.
The property tax rate for Queen Anne’s County will be advertised to increase 12 cents to .8871 per $100 of taxable assessed value July 1, 2011. This is an increase of approximately $1 per day on the median household in the County. The income tax rate of 2.85 percent is proposed to increase to 3.2 effective January 1, 2012.
The county administrator emphasized that for legal reasons the tax rate must be advertised at the highest level necessary to balance the budget and that the commissioners may decide on any tax rate at or below that figure.
Three public hearings will be held at 7 p.m. at the following locations:
• Budget Hearing – June 13 at Bayside Elementary School
• Constant Yield Hearing – June 14, at Queen Anne’s County High School Auditorium
• Budget Hearing – June 15, at Sudlersville Middle School
A letter detailing the process and a copy of the proposed budget will be mailed on June 2nd to all registered voters in Queen Anne’s County. The information is also available at www.qac.org. The public is encouraged to attend the budget hearings and speakers are asked to keep their comments to less than 3 minutes. Written comments are also encouraged.
