Tolls To Increase

The Maryland Transportation Authority has voted to raise tolls statewide. The nine-member board of the Maryland Transportation Authority voted unanimously to raise tolls on bridges, tunnels and highways beginning November 1. Transportation officials have said the hikes are needed to pay for repairs and projects. The new tolls are expected to generate $90-million in their first full year. Protests to the original proposals prompted officials to reduce the hikes at the Chesapeake Bay and the Governor Harry W. Nice bridges to $4 for two-axle vehicles starting November 1 and to $6 in July 2013. Currently, motorists pay $2.50 on the Bay Bridge and $3 on the Nice Bridge. The monthly $1.50 E-ZPass fee will be waived on accounts that use toll facilities three or more times per month.
