Town Finds Extra Funds; Amory Breakthrough

Chestertown Town Manager Bill Ingersoll told the Town Council that there was actually $100,000 additional in SAFETEA-LU funds for Rails-to-Trails than he originally thought. The news came moments before Washington College President Mitchell Reiss appeared for a closed session with a freshly minted Memorandum of Understanding to buy the Sgt. John H. Newnam Armory. The double surprise came less than a week after three councilmen and Reiss appeared to be at an impasse. Last week ended with Councilmen Gibson Anthony, James Gatto, and Marty Stetson vowing to get greater value for selling the Town’s option on the Armory in response to an ultimatum from Reiss to agree to the original MOU by mid-November.
