Triathlete and author Brian Boyle will be a guest participant in the 2011 Six Pillars Century Cycling Event on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge near Cambridge, MD. Boyle’s inspiring story, Iron Heart – The True Story of How I Came Back from the Dead,” has inspired athletes nationwide who are overcoming debilitating injuries, such as his sustained in a car accident the year he graduated from high school. Boyle, who completed the 2007 Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, will ride the Ironman Eagleman 56-mile course during the Six Pillars Century and then will be available in Great Marsh Park in Cambridge for a book signing.

The Six Pillars Century Cycling Fundraiser offers four ride choices – 11-mile Family Ride; 37-mile Fun and Fitness Ride; a 56-mile Ironman Eagleman Ride and the beautiful 100-mile Century Ride through Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Low traffic and flat terrain are hallmarks of the course. The event benefits Character Counts Mid Shore, Inc.; an Eastern Shore non-profit organization that provides programs based on the Six Pillars of Character at no charge to the public schools.

The Six Pillars Century check-in begins at 6 a.m. at Great Marsh Park in historic Cambridge, MD. A “show and go” start will be held between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. The event will be held rain or shine. The cost of registration $65 per person through May 1. Registration for the family ride is $40 per family with a maximum of four family members.
