Swan Cove Day Spa and Salon in Stevensville raised a record breaking $12,500 in their 7th Annual Breast Cancer Fundraiser. The salon combined with Coconut Joe’s Hawaiian Bar and Grill in Edgewater to exceed all expectations.

Swan Cove sold pink hair and feather extensions in the salon, at the Jetty Restaurant, Queen Anne’s High School, and the “Get Pinked” event for Bosom Buddies members and through a raffle in the month of October. At Coconut Joe’s a daylong event called “Save the Coconuts” also raised funds. The resulting contribution to Bosom Buddies supports Anne Arundel Medical’s Breast Center.

For many years Brenda’s Swan Cove Salon has been a major contributor to Bosom Buddies Charities. She has served on the Bosom Buddies Ball committee and donated significant contributions to the fund.

Coconut Joe’s is owned by Jennifer and Michael Brown and Craig and Kristin Foster. Their event was a great success with pink hair, live music all day, face painting, a sports memorabilia auction, a raffle and more. The collection of unwanted bras resulted in a “Bra Stretch” which covered the length of the South River Bridge where Coconut Joe’s is located. The generosity of many vendors to both businesses played a huge part in the fund raiser.

Jennifer and Kristin had their daughters sold over 400 cupcakes for the benefit while learning the importance of philanthropy and compassion for others. Brenda, owner of Swan Cove, lost her grandmother, Jennifer’s great-grandmother, to breast cancer and are now experiencing the pain and suffering of their mother and grandmother who has breast cancer. Their fund raising efforts come from the heart.

The Annual Bosom Buddies Ball will be held at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club on January 21, 2012. The event includes a top-notch band, dancing, a delicious meal and an extraordinary auction.
