Library to Host Discussion of Doctor Book
On Monday evening, February 11, at 6:30 p.m., and again on Wednesday morning, February 20, at 11:30 a.m., in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library, “the library guy” Bill Peak will host a discussion of Abraham Verghese’s best-selling novel “Cutting for Stone.” In his library column in The Star Democrat, Peak called Verghese’s work “a novel that goes to the heart of the doctor-patient relationship.” A physician himself, Verghese is a tenured professor and Associate Chair of Internal Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. Several local M.D.s have agreed to participate in the library’s discussions of Verghese’s book. All library programs are free and open to the public, but patrons are asked to pre-register for the discussion date that best fits their calendar. St. Michaels Library to Screen Johnny Depp’s “Chocolat”
On Tuesday, February 12, at noon, the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library will offer a free showing of the award-winning film “Chocolat.” Released in 2000 and starring Johnny Depp, Juliette Binoche, and Judi Dench, the film received 5 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Binoche), and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Dench). The movie is rated PG-13. Patrons are invited to bring a bag lunch and enjoy the film on the library’s large, theatre-quality screen. All library programs are free and open to the public.
