Eric Buchholtz rushed for over 130 yards and scored two touchdowns. Jake Grimes scored the other touchdown on a 4 yard run.

September 25, 2010 The UQA Lions 100lb A football team improved to 5 and 0 this week with a hard fought victory over the Severna Park Green Hornets. Severna Park stymied what is usually a high scoring offense, and caused the Lions defense to step up and win the game, 7 to 0 in overtime. The defensive line, lead by defensive ends Paul Gill & Alex “A-Train” Ruiz, defensive tackles Connor Quade & Matthew Thomas, and nose guards Justin Day & Anthony Guiffre, took over in the trenches, holding Severna Park scoreless and only giving up four first downs the entire game. In addition to the dline, linebackers Eduard “Water Boy” Barrett, Ryan “Assassin” Garretson, Kole Gunther, Charles “Pick 6’ Hynson, and Seamus McCartin, made multiple tackles for losses over the course of the game. The defensive effort was capped off by safeties Garrett Murray and Jacob “Pinball” Naylor who defended the pass to perfection all game long. The Lions offense won the time of possession battle and came very close to scoring in regulation but never was able to punch it in.
In overtime the Lions got the ball first and took all 4 plays to score. Ruiz had two hard 3 yard runs to get to the 4 yard line and then Naylor ran another 3 yards on third down to get down to Severna Park’s one yard line. A timeout was called and in the huddle tight end Chase Klepper suggested a play that had worked for the Lions in the past, for the 4thdown call. The Lions ran a swinging gate; a play in which 9 players line up to the right of the center (Barrett). Barrett shotgun snaps the ball to Naylor and Naylor sweeps right looking for the first lane he sees. Naylor crossed the goal line to put the Lions up 6 to 0. Klepper’s suggestion worked so well that the Lions ran the same play again for the extra point to make it 7 to 0.

It was then the defenses’ turn to step up one more time for Severna Park’s overtime possession. Severna Park started with an off tackle play that was stuffed for a two yard loss and then threw an incomplete pass on 2nd down after the dline again got a ton of pressure on the SP Quarterback. On 3rd down, Naylor jumped the tight end’s route to intercept the pass and seal the victory for the Lions.
