Vein & Wellness Center Announces Appointment of New Staff Member

Frank Pita, a registered cardiovascular technologist, has joined the staff at the Vein & Wellness Center, Red Apple Corner, 110 South Piney Road, Chester. Mr. Pita’s appointment will enable the Center to expand the operation of its vascular lab to include peripheral arterial scanning to diagnose circulatory diseases such as peripheral arterial disease (P.A.D.) He will also facilitate an electronic medical records system for the practice.

Mr. Pita has nearly 25 years experience in non-invasive vascular testing including cerebrovascular, arterial and venous ultrasonography. In addition to his certification as a registered vascular technologist, he is a registered vascular specialist and a registered cardiac sonographer.

Mr. Pita trained in Cardiovascular Ultrasound and Doppler Technology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, in Miami Beach, Fla. He began his career at the Miami Heart Institute, where he performed all aspects of non-invasive vascular testing. Later, he became technical director at South Miami Hospital Blood Flow Lab where his responsibilities included patient testing, personnel training, laboratory accreditation, and quality assurance.

He also worked at the University of Miami /Jackson Memorial Hospital Cardiac Ultrasound Lab where he performed patient testing and conducted cardiac research. In addition, Mr. Pita served as an instructor of Vascular Ultrasound at Miami Dade College.

He came to Washington, D.C., as technical manager of the Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL), a non-profit accrediting body that is committed to quality assurance of noninvasive vascular laboratories. Later he moved back into the clinical setting at Washington Hospital Center where he met and worked closely with Dr. O’Donnell, medical director of the Vein and Wellness Center.
