Volunteer of the Week: Paula Warner and United Way offer Variety of Assistance to Queen Anne’s County

By Avra Sullivan

Meet Paula Warner. Many may know her from her jewelry store in Kent Island, Paula’s Fine Jewelry. What some may not know is her heavy involvement with the United Way. Her volunteer work began years ago in Wisconsin where she used to live. Upon moving here, she “connected with some great ladies who encouraged me to volunteer” and has been volunteering locally since 2007. She recently finished up a term as President of the Queen Anne’s County United Way and sits on several committees. Paula says that awareness is one of the key benefits the United Way offers. “Many people aren’t ware of the services that are available to them”, says Paula. The Queen Anne’s County chapter works with 26 local organizations that help meet a variety of needs in the community. They assist in helping the elderly as well as children, support local food banks, meet the needs of those with epilepsy, work with adult day care and even help with animals in need. They host many events throughout the year and this summer, they will host a Golf Tournament on June 15th in Queenstown.

United Way of Queen Anne’s County was established in 1990 in response to public requests for an agency to coordinate community service organizations. They offer ample opportunities for volunteer assistance to the community. Person interested in serving with the Queen Anne’s United Way should call 410-643-6288. They can also visit them at www.
