VOLUNTEERING IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH! SO BECOME A CHARACTER COACH OR MENTOR

Character-Counts-LogoVOLUNTEERING IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH!!…..SO BECOME A CHARACTER COACH OR MENTOR

Character Counts! And The CommUNITY Mentoring Partnership in Queen Anne’s County is actively seeking Character Counts! Coaches and Mentors.

Character Counts! part of the QAC Local Management Board, Community Partnerships for Families and Children is actively seeking male and female Character Coaches to go into the classroom at all local QAC elementary and middle schools. Coaches help schools to instill the 6 Pillars of Character including Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship in students in grades K-6.  Coaches spend as little as 1 hour per month in the classrooms but have the ability to impact students for a lifetime.

Mentors are also needed for students in grades 5-10. Mentoring is designed to connect caring adults with youths to explore life’s possibilities.  Each mentor makes a monthly commitment to spend at least four hours of interaction with their mentee and ultimately meet them both in and out of school.

Mentoring activities could include things such as discussing current events, taking a nature walk, helping with organizational skills, playing sports or board games, cooking, or reading books about a shared interest. The goal is to build a dependable, supportive, and positive relationship with the mentee.

It is hoped that these valuable coaching and mentoring moments will increase the academic performance and self-esteem of young students. With this increase in confidence, it is expected that their lifetime goals and ambitions will increase as well.

To become a Character Coach or Mentor or for additional questions, please contact the character coach and mentor coordinator, Jacki Carter, at 410-758-6677 or jcarter@qac.org.
