Volunteers Build a Better World

Hospice of Queen Anne’s hosted their 25th annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at American Legion Post 296 in Queenstown, Maryland. The theme of the dinner was “Volunteers Build a Better World.” During 2009 Hospice of Queen Anne’s Volunteers logged in an amazing 22,029 hours of service. This is precious time that was donated to HQA to ensure that our hospice runs smoothly.

Year after year hospice volunteers give of their personal time so we can provide hospice and bereavement services to the citizens of Queen Anne’s County and surrounding areas. A few of these individuals are what we call “Chartered Volunteers.” Margaret Baker, Mildred Barnette and Carolyn Dobyns have been volunteering since Hospice of Queen Anne’s opened its doors in 1985. We would like to especially acknowledge the long-term commitment of these individuals to Hospice of Queen Anne’s.

Volunteering for Hospice of Queen Anne’s takes on many forms. In addition to assisting our patients and families, volunteers serve as lobby greeters, clerical assistants, and they help in our residential center with meals. They volunteer at events and in our fund raising events. They volunteer at Camp New Dawn, our summer camp for grieving children. In addition, they volunteer at Estate Treasures, an up-scale resale shop in Chester, MD. Estate Treasures donate all funds to Hospice of Queen Anne’s.

It is safe to say that Hospice of Queen Anne’s could not function without Volunteer support. The dinner to honor our volunteers was just a small way of expressing appreciation for all the work they do without asking for anything in return. We would like to express our appreciation to the American Legion Post 296 for donating their facility for the event and the Ladies Auxiliary for preparing and donating the delicious dinner.
