There is a new watermen’s association on the Eastern shore. The Chesapeake Bay Commercial Fishermen’s Association, based in Dorchester County, was formed last week when more than 100 Eastern Shore watermen met at the Church Creek fire hall. Watermen from Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline and other counties attended. They said the Maryland Watermen’s Association was not representing their concerns. With fewer days to work and shorter working hours, many watermen felt the state was deliberately trying to drive them out of business. Full members will pay $200 a year in dues; associate members $100.
