Wye River Upper School Students Prepare for West Gallery Art Exhibit

On April 8th, from 5-7pm and April 9th, from 9am-1pm and 5-7pm, Wye River Upper School students will be exhibiting their artwork at the West Gallery located at 107 Lawyers Row in Centreville, MD. Student work will include photo documentary books and movies, and select student photos. Mr. Martinez, the WRUS photography teacher, has been working with students on digital photography techniques. This class has been completed a variety of projects this school year including: portraits, landscapes, macro-photography, movie-making and photo-documentary work. “This is our second year exhibiting at the West Gallery. The students do all the work for the show including framing, matting, hanging, advertising and hosting. Last year we sold approximately 20 pieces. Students decided to purchase a large format printer from their earnings for the school. The quality of their work is really impressive and we hope to have another great show this year,” states Martinez. Juniors, JR Bauer and Drew Tyler are also looking forward to the show, “This is my first art exhibit. I am hoping many people will come” says Tyler. “This class has been a good experience for me. I don’t think that I would have learned how to really handle a camera well and make great photos under different circumstances,” says Bauer. Light refreshments will be provided.
