League Of Women Voters’ Forum For Candidates For County Commissioner

The Queen Anne’s County League of Women Voters will hold a forum for candidates for the five Board of County Commissioner seats on Tuesday evening, October 12 in the Board Room of the County Board of Education Building, 202 Chesterfield Ave. in Centreville at 7 p.m. The forum is free and open to the public.

Regardless of which of the four Commissioner Districts a voter lives in, each voter can vote for five commissioner candidates, one from each of the four Commissioner Districts plus one commissioner candidate for the “At Large” seat.

For the At Large seat Democrat Neal Jackson is opposed by Republican Steve Arentz. The winner of the At Large seat will be the County Commissioner President for the first year of the Commissioners’ four year term. In the 1st Commissioner District, voters will be choosing between Republican David Dunmyer and Democrat Joe Gannon. In the 2nd District, incumbent Democrat Paul Gunther is opposed by Republican Bob Simmons. Phil Dumenil is running against Pastor Arlene Taylor in the 3rd District, and Democrat Jack Broderick and Republican Dave Olds are the opposing candidates for the 4th District seat.

The forums will begin with each candidate introducing him or herself. The introductions will be followed by questions from audience. At the end, each candidate will be given time for a closing statement.

No electioneering will be permitted inside the Board of Education Building; no campaign paraphernalia, including buttons, signs and literature will be allowed inside.

The Queen Anne’s County League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization committed to encouraging the active and informed participation of citizens in government. Membership is open to citizens age 18 or over, female or male.
